Assessment Task 1 – Pharmacology Education Plan Pharmacological therapeutics continue to play a pivotal role in the delivery and maintenance of health andwellbeing in contemporary society. Effective healthcare requires the process of optimising the Quality Useof Medicines (QUM). This assignment helps to ensure safe medication administration by understandingsafe medication pharmaceutical therapeutics by following the Australian Standards, in particular,Medication Safety Standard and Partnering with Consumers Standards in the National Safety and QualityHealth Service Standards as well as Aged Care Quality Standards. Registered nurses have an importantrole to play in the healthcare team to ensure the safe and reliable compliance of drugs. To do this, theymust not only have a comprehensive knowledge of the actions and effects of pharmacological agents being prescribed and administered to patients by other health professionals, but they also need to awareof potential problems that may arise in relation to a patient’s drug regime. They, therefore, become anintegral conduit between other health professionals and the patient by providing multifaceted advice andfeedback to the entire healthcare team.Purpose:The purpose of this learning task is to provide students with an opportunity to apply their developingClinical Decision-Making skills to an allocated patient scenario. The task is designed to allow you to focusupon all therapeutic aspects relating to that patients care. It will therefore encourage the development ofknowledge and skills of fundamental pharmacological principles and aspects of patient care in order toeducate and inform a professional audience and deliver pertinent patient education.Part B: Group Development of a Medication Information: e-Poster.Part 1B is a group assignment. You will need to work in the already selected group of 3-4 students. Eachgroup will be allocated a patient scenario. As a group, you will be required to develop an e-poster for anaudience of your colleagues (the professional healthcare team) containing the elements to be consideredfor the QUM specific to the allocated patient’s scenario. Evidence-based practice indicates that studentsworking in peer groups achieve the best learning outcomes. At the commencement of the group work, youwill be asked to acknowledge a Group Learning Contract that will bind you to work collaboratively withyour other group members (available via Moodle). As a group, you will need to ‘meet’ using virtual platforms that are agreed by the group members, such as Moodle, closed Facebook page, Google docs etc to ensure regular communication among the group members.As a group, Examine a case study that includes a brief clinical overview of a patient, including theirmedication list, demographics and details about their external environment. Using all of this information Consider the impact of their environment on their medication management. You arerequired to study the medication list in relation to this patient and produce a poster that reflects keyfeatures for the QUM for this particular patient. This will also include any potential interactions,contraindications and/or precautions, the timing of the administration of the drugs, medication inconjunction with food and/or physical activity, polypharmacy, lifespan, interactions with aspects of diet,supplements, illicit drugs, issues of medication compliance, management of adverse drug reactions, andanything else that you and your group identify which is relevant to the patient in the scenario.Information can be presented in both text and diagrams, bearing in mind that your audience for the posteris other health professionals. As a group, you are encouraged to use creativity in this Learning Task tocome up with an e-poster to communicate safe, competent and effective medication therapy for yourclient. Information and guidelines on developing and producing an e-Poster, together with examples ofexemplar poster formats, will be provided on Moodle. Ideally, the number of words used on the poster should not exceed 500 words. Remember a poster is a visual form of communication for the audience.Thought must be given to the use of appropriate graphics where applicable.
