Background of study (Past research and at the end said how it relate to this study) Topic: Sensitivity to oriented structures during image recognition Summary: The presented experiment evaluated the difference in sensitivity of the mechanism in human brain that use to adequately identify a range of indoor and outdoor scenes when the scenes are presented in cardinal (horizontal and vertical) and inter-cardinal orientation with rotation. Also, does the duration of image expose to the participants affect the sensitivity of classifying the scenes. The study recruited 20 participants including male and female from the age group of 18-25 years old to evaluate their visual capacity for identifying the indoor and outdoor images at different orientation. Two categories of images (indoor and outdoor), with different conditions were displayed in front of the participants for identification. There will be a total of 8 conditions of stimuli which are filtered and upright, filtered and tilted, unfiltered and upright, unfiltered and tilted, and these four conditions will presented in two different durations : 50ms and 200ms, which makes 4 conditions times 2 different duration of exposure equals to 8 conditions of stimuli. Also, each stimuli (images) presented will be assigned a root mean square (RMS) contrast, which RMS contrast is defines as the standard deviation of the pixel intensities. (P.E., 1990). Participants will have to go through two block of experiment which both block contain the same four conditions stated earlier, but all the stimuli will be presented for only 50ms in first block and 200ms in second block. Participants will be given two keys which represent indoor or outdoor, so they have to response to either each when they saw the images.
